Description
Zoo Med’s NEW Tropical Bioblend is the perfect substrate for your Tropical Bioactive Terrarium.
Zoo Med Tropical Bioblend base combines humus, peat moss, sand and carbon to provide a living space for your “Clean-Up-Crew” to thrive in while also providing nutrients to your plants.
Also added to this substrate blend is ReptiBark®. These small chips of Fir Tree bark provide drainage and aeration for the soil and prevents compaction making sure that your invertebrates can move about the substrate.
Lastly, Sphagnum Moss is added to retain moisture and boost the humidity of your tropical terrarium. Sphagnum moss will also resist decay making this substrate long lasting.
MISTING :
Mist your BioBlend daily to help maintain the proper humidity Jevel needed in your terrarium. Use REPTISAFE® to remove all chlorine/chlora mines from your tap water.
HUMIDIFY :
Humidify your BioBlend daily to maintain the correct humidity in your terrarium. Use REPTISAFE® to remove chlorine/chiomena from your tap water.
CLEANING :
Bioactive habitats may require less frequent removal and replacement of substrate. To clean, remove debris daily and replace substrate as needed.
Add or replace BioBlend if it shreds or a foul odor persists.
Components of a Bioactive Vivarium
Leaf Litter & Toppers
Leaves, mosses, and bark pieces help slow evaporation and provide an ideal home for members of the clean-up crew.
BIO BLEND
Combines a variety of different materials that together retain moisture, resist compaction, and provide a stable environment for plant roots and the clean-up crew.
Drainage Layer
A layer of Hydroballs used under the substrate layer prevents soggy conditions in the terrarium by providing a place for excess water to drain.
Clean-up Crew
A variety of invertebrates and microorganisms that work together converting waste into usable nutrients for live vivarium plants.
Live Plants
•Live plants utilize the nutrients created by the clean-up crew for growth.
WHAT IS BIOACTIVE ?
The term “bioactive” is used to describe a miniature ecosystem created in a terrarium or vivarium. In a functional bioactive habitat, small invertebrates (aka: Clean-up Crew) break down waste from your pet to make nutrients available for live plants to consume. This incredible living network forms a balance that can reduce the maintenance of your habitat while enhancing its look. The right substrate mix is critical to a successful bioactive habitat as it will be where your “Clean-Up Crew” will do their part to convert waste and where plants will root to take up the excess nutrients.
